Mary Ives Baldwin was the wife of Dr. Edward R. Baldwin. She was active in civic and philanthropic organizations of Saranac Lake, including the Village Improvement Society, of which she was one of the incorporating directors.

Mrs. Edward Baldwin Marks 89th Birthday

Mrs. Edward R. Baldwin, of 6 Church street, will celebrate her 89th birthday tomorrow. She will be at home to her friends during the afternoon and evening, although she is not issuing invitations this year.

Visiting her for the occasion are her son and daughter-in-law, Dr. and Mrs. Henry I. Baldwin, and three of her four grandchildren, Miss Harriet Baldwin, and Edward and Gunnar Baldwin, of Hillsboro, N. H.

The fourth granddaughter, Mrs. Harold Knapp of Boston, Mass., visited her earlier in the summer with her 5-month-old daughter, Emilie.

As in past years, Mrs. Baldwin will entertain her family and a few close friends at a birthday luncheon tomorrow.

Mrs. Baldwin is the widow of the late Dr. Edward R. Baldwin, an associate of Dr. E. L. Trudeau and a noted tuberculosis specialist. Her husband died in this village, May 6, 1947.

Mrs. Baldwin was born in Cheshire, Conn., on August 14, 1863, She is the former Mary Caroline Ives.

Having come to Saranac Lake at the age of 22, she has lived here 67 years. Mrs. Baldwin shops in town nearly every day and attends the Presbyterian church regularly. She has been very active in civic and philanthropic organizations of the village, particularly the Lend-A-Hand Society.

MRS. BALDWIN FUNERAL RITES

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the Saranac Lake Presbyterian Church for Mrs. E. R. Baldwin, 93, widow of Dr. Edward Robinson Baldwin, world famous tuberculosis specialist, who died yesterday at her home, 6 Church st, this village.

Interment will be in Pine Ridge Cemetery. The body will repose at the Fortune Funeral Home until time of services. The family requests that flowers be omitted.

Mrs. Baldwin, the former Mary Caroline Ives, was born on August 14, 1863 in Cheshire, Conn. She was married in Cheshire on June 1, 1895 to the doctor and moved to Saranac Lake to make her home. Dr. Baldwin died here on May 6, 1947.

Mrs. Baldwin was one of the village's most active civic workers and furthered many of the philanthropic activities of local organizations. She was also an active member of the Presbyterian Church. Survivors include one son, Dr. Henry I. Baldwin, of Hillsboro, N. H.; four grandchildren, Mrs. Harold A. Knapp, of Washington, D. C, Mrs. Kirk Bryan, of Cambridge, Mass., Edward Robinson Baldwin II and Gunnar Ives Baldwin, of Hillsboro, N. H. There are also two great grandchildren.
