REQUIEM MASS IS HELD FOR VETERAN GUIDE
Funeral services were held today for Perley Squires, 69, veteran Adirondack guide, who died at this home, 170 Broadway early Friday morning.
A solemn requiem Mass was celebrated this morning in St. Bernard's church by Rev. Joseph Blais. Bearers were John Ryan, William Herron, Sr., John Lapan, Albert Latour, Frank Turner and James Collins.
Interment was in St. Bernard's cemetery.
Mr. Squires was born in Plattsburgh, came to Saranac Lake at an early age and has spent most of his life in this village. He was well acquainted with Adirondack wood lore and was an outstanding guide for hunting and camping parties in this section.
He was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. William Squires. Survivors are four nephews in Plattsburg and Hudson Falls.

Well Known Guide Buried Monday
Perley Squires, a well known Adirondack guide, died at his home in Saranac Lake last Friday, aged about 70 years, and his funeral was held from St. Bernard's church in that village on Monday. Mr. Squires was a native of the city of Plattsburg, but left there about forty years ago to take up his residence at Saranac Lake. He erected Mud Lake camp, which has for a number of years been a favorite resort with hunters and fishermen.

Perley Squires, of Saranac Lake, won the guides' rifle contest at the Sportsmen's Show in New York City, with a score of 29. Paul Smith's score was 26.
