BLOOMINGDALE
The sudden death of Peter O'Malley on Thursday, May 19th, came as a shock to his many friends. The funeral was held from St. Paul's church, Bloomingdale, and interment was in the Catholic Cemetery.
The deceased was born in Colton, N. Y., St. Lawrence county, June 16, 1853, the son of James O'Malley and Katherine Brennan, and came to the Adirondacks at the age of twenty. In 1876 he married Miss Isabel Beattie of Dundee, Canada.
Mr. O'Malley was an ardent lover of the woods and an expert huntsman and guide. In the early days he guided President Grover Cleveland and other prominent men. He came to Saranac Lake in 1893 and built several houses, among them the Devereux cottage on Marshall street. He supervised the building of the St. Armand race track and was an owner and lover of fine horses. Later for several years he ran the International Hotel at Piercefield.
In 1906 Mr. O'Malley came to Bloomingdale where he engaged in farming until 1917. When he retired and lived until his death at his home on the Bloomingdale road.
He is survived by his wife; one adopted daughter, Mrs. F. P. Van Cour; one brother, James O'Malley, Bloomingdale, and two sisters, Mrs. M. B. Norman, Bloomingdale. and Mrs. Alfred Ashley, Cheever, N. H. Among out-of-town friends who attended the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. Russell O'Malley and children, Detroit, Mich.; Mr. and Mrs. Fred O'Malley, John O'Malley and Mrs. Herbert Bruce, Springfield, Mass.; Mr. and Mrs. Bert Frank, Colton, N. Y.; Mr. and Mrs. Patrick O'Malley and son, Bernard, Potsdam; Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Ashley and daughter, Nellie, Cheever, N. H.; John Beattie, Mrs. John Frasher and Mrs. Maloney Cornwall, Canada.
