St. Luke's institutes new rector

SARANAC LAKE - The Rev. Philip W. Snyder was instituted as the 13th rector of the Church of St. Luke, the Beloved Physician on Sunday, Oct. 20 the institutor of this service was the Rev. Richard Janke, dean of Northern Adirondack and rector of Trinity Church, Plattsburgh.

Present in the chancel during the institution were Ellsworth Wilcox, junior warden, and Thomas Cantwell, senior warden, who presented Fr. Snyder with the key to the church.

Fr. Carmichael spoke affectionately of Fr. Hill, former rector who was of the old school and of Fr. Snyder, a young man of the new school, who is ready to give the same fine leadership and to love the people of the parish.

Members of the clergy present for this service were the Rev. R. Welton formerly of Rouses Point; the Rev. Michael Kundrat of Tupper Lake; the Rev. William Hayes of Lake Placid; the Rev. Brother Paul, Order of Holy Cross, West Park; the Rev. A. Bernworth of Rochester; the Rev. James Kane, the Rev. Robert Shurtleff of St. Bernard's Church; the Rev. Philip Zebley, First Presbyterian Church; and the Rev. Eric King, First United Methodist Church.

A reception in the parish house followed the service of institution. Dr. Dorothy Steward and Mrs. Francis Trudeau Sr. were hostesses at the tea table. Mrs. Stephen Kerley was in charge of refreshments.
