R. Peter Straus, the Chairman of Straus Broadcasting in New York City, was a frequent visitor to Knollwood Club on Lower Saranac Lake.

He was the son of Nathan Straus, who founded the company in 1922. Peter Straus often read editorials commenting on current events on WMCA. Straus wrote and read the first broadcast editorial calling for the impeachment of Richard M. Nixon.

He served as head of the Voice of America during the Carter administration.
