Sable Island is a seven-acre island in Lower Saranac Lake near Lonesome Bay. Until the practice was ended in 1975, there were sites for four Platform Tents on the island, and one open site. One of the sites was purchased from the Bradys and occupied by the Dr. Joseph A. Johnston family from 1951 until the state ended the platform permit system in the 1970s. Other Tent Platform Permit Holders on the island included the Kirbys, Herbert Sternau, Edna Currie & Ingersoll, and Milfred J. Chetney.

The island is now part of the Saranac Lake Islands Campground; there are three campsites.
