Sarah H. Chester was a schoolteacher from the Southeast. She had a platform built before 1904 for the large tent where she spent her summers every year. She returned south each winter. By 1915, Miss Chester had built a small cabin on the same platform, a modest dwelling that remained with minor alterations until it nearly collapsed and was torn down.

The Chester Cabin was a contributing building to the Cottage Row Historic District. After it had fallen into serious disrepair and was condemned by the Village, the cabin, reputed to be built on a tent platform base, was torn down in 2014 or early 2015.

The cottage of Miss Chester . . . at the foot of Mt. Pisgah took fire from a lamp explosion but the fire department extinguished the blaze before much damage was done.
