SKATING RACES TO BE HELD IN SARANAC LAKE

Carnival Association Decides to Promote Championship Contests

Skating races, including important championship matches, and other ice festivals are assured this winter following a meeting of the Saranac Lake Carnival association last week at the Saranac Lake club. The matter of a carnival was placed in the hands of the chamber of commerce, which will decide within a day or so whether the mid-winter show will be held.

Seven new directors of the association were chosen as follows: Frank H. McKee, Louis Kernochan, Walter Sagendorf, A. W. Callanan, C. H. Goldsmith, William Mulflur and P. A. Gould. In a day or so the directors will meet and elect officers for the year. With this completed, plans will be formulated at once for ice events, which will soon be under way if the present wintery weather continues.

While stockholders of the association voted to turn the matter of a carnival with parade and decorations and other festivities over to the chamber of commerce, and this was formally done on motion of Dr. E. R. Baldwin, seconded by Dr. Lawrason Brown, the association will continue to stage skating meets at the Pontiac Rink on Lake Flower, preceding the main championship meet, which will be held probably in February and an announcement of which will be forthcoming soon, the association will hold matinee skating meets to decide the championships of this section.

The association will assist in staging skiing exhibitions and other winter sports, which are suggested by the snow-covered streets and the frozen lakes, it is altogether likely that the chamber of commerce, now organized thoroughly and in the hands of executives, will arrange a winter show embodying the features of the carnivals which have made that village famous as a winter resort.
