The Saranac Lake Ski Club had 105 members circa 1918, when ski jumping was becoming popular. A jump was built on Blood Hill and weekly contests were held in jumping and cross country skiing. An exchange of visits was held with the Montreal Ski Club resulting in improved techniques. This and other skiing activity in the Adirondacks culminated in the organization of the U.S. Eastern Amateur Ski Association in Saranac Lake at the annual banquet of the Saranac Lake Ski Club in the Berkeley Hotel in 1922.

Local Ski Club Holds Meeting to Discuss Winter Season Plans
At a meeting of the Saranac Lake Ski club last night in the Oak room of the Hotel Saranac, an open discussion was held on plans of the club for the coming season.
A financial report was given by Walter Duffy, treasurer.
William G. Scheefer, Jr., president, showed the new patch that has been adopted by the club and it was met with full approval by members.
This colorful emblem was designed by Billy Demerse, a 12-year-old member of the organization. Mr. Scheefer pointed out that the wearing of this patch, both in and out of Saranac Lake was an excellent means of advertisement of this village as a winter sports center.
Joseph Munn and Robert Demerse gave a brief account of the work completed by members of The Ski club in clearing a new section of Mount Pisgah for a more suitable slalom run.
Mr. Munn also explained the tentative plans or the Village of Saranac Lake in running and improving of the Mt. Pisgah Ski center and of building of a one-man bobrun. He stated that the Ski club has already played an important role in furthering of winter sports here and will have an even greater task in years 10 come.
Mr. Scheefer appointed David Hanning, Joseph Munn and Alan Edelberg on a nominating committee to present a slate of officers for the coming year. The election will be held at a meeting at 7:30 o'clock next Wednesday night in the Oak room of the Hotel Saranac.
The president stated that the club has applied to the United States Eastern Amateur Ski association for sanctioning of the New York State Slalom championships, to be held on Mount Pisgah on Jan. 2, 1949. This event proved to be a big success last year.
The Ski club is open to all interested persons and they are invited to attend the next meeting.
