The funeral of Sidney Edwin Otis, veteran guide of the Adirondacks, took place Monday afternoon at his residence in Lake Clear. Burial was at Harrietstown, his former home. Mr. Otis was born in Harriettstown July 2, 1845, the son of Horatio Nelson Otis and Eunice White. He was a direct descendent of James Otis of Revolutionary fame. At the age of 16 he enlisted in "M" company of the 18th New York Cavalry, with which he served three years. Mr. Otis married Ellen S. Whitman in 1870. The survivors are his wife and six. children, Mrs. Allen I. Vosburgh of Lake Clear, Mrs. Julius A. Roberts of Elizabethtown, Mrs. Clifford R. Pettis of Albany, Matthew W. Otis of Lake Clear, George W. Otis of Albany and Fritz E. Otis of Plattsburg.

Sidney Edwin Otis, a famous Adirondack guide and woodsman, passed away December 22nd at his home in Lake Clear, aged 75 years, after a long illness following a stroke of paralysis from which he never recovered. He had been a lifelong resident of the town of Harrietstown where he was born in 1845, the son of Herado and Eunice White Otis. He was a direct descendant of the Pilgrim fathers. Deceased was an honored Civil War veteran, having served three years as a member of the 18th N. T. Cavalry, and was a member of F. M. Bull G. A. R. Post at Saranac Lake. Until stricken by illness was one of the most active and popular residents of the Adirondacks, where he conducted a boarding house and engaged in guiding and farming.....
