Titus N. Spaulding was a businessman and store keeper who built the Spaulding Block, Saranac Lake's first brick building, in 1882. He also owned the grist mill built by Ensine Miller that used to stand below Captain Pliny Miller's saw mill, that was later owned by the Bloods; it was torn down with the saw mill. 1
His wife, Abbie, was the sister of Charles Brown, the guide who murdered George Berkeley, the proprietor of the Riverside Inn in 1888. He was in Dawson City, Alaska, when his wife died in 1901.

Titus Spaulding, who was remembered by many of the older residents of Saranac Lake as a business man and manager of the telegraph here, had been heard from in familiar veins from far away Franklin, Alaska. It took the letter from the 16th of January to February 23 to reach Saranac Lake.
