Walter Peightal work for Paul Smiths Electric Company.  He was a World War II veteran.  He lived at 78 Lake Street in the war years.

Walter Peightal

SARANAC LAKE — Walter R. Peightal, 88, of 20 Church Street, died Tuesday, July 23, 1991, at the Adirondack Medical Center there.

Born Oct. 20, 1902, in Phillipsburg, Pa., he was the son of Orin and Maude (Peters) Peightal. He moved to Saranac Lake in 1937 to work for Paul Smiths Electric Co. until 1950. He moved to Daytona Beach, Fla., where he worked as a civil engineer until 1967 when he retired and moved back to Saranac Lake. Mr. Peightal served in the National Guard for many years. He was a member of the Elks Lodge 1508 in Saranac like, was a past member of the Saranac Lake Golf Club and the Tuesday Night Men's Golf League.

He married Mary Maddox on Aug. 17, 1925. She died Dec. 22, 1989.

Survivors include three granddaughters, Kathy Parker of Monterey, Calif., Ann Dupree and Mary Sue Peightal, both of Saranac Lake; four great-grandchildren, Gregory and Jennifer Riley and Jon and Christopher Dupree, all of Saranac Lake; three nieces; and a daughter-in-law.

A son, Jack, died in 1989.

There will be no calling hours. A funeral service will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at the Fortune/Keough Funeral Home, with the Rev. Lester Loder officiating. Cremation will follow.

Memorial donations may be made to the Saranac Lake Adult Center, the Methodist Church Memorial Fund or the Saranac Lake Rescue Squad.
