Weller Pond is a 192 acre wilderness pond eight miles southwest of the village of Saranac Lake, New York. It is connected to Middle Saranac Lake and is entirely state-owned. It sits in the shadow of Boot Bay Mountain; there is a canoe carry to Upper Saranac Lake. It is a popular paddling and cross-country skiing destination.

There are five public campsites on the pond, which are part of the Saranac Islands Public Campground. Weller Pond was made famous by Martha Reben's The Healing Woods, a memoir of her experiences camping on its shore in 1931 while attempting a self-cure of tuberculosis. 1

New York State stocked it with Brown Trout in 1892.

 FOREST FIRES ARE ALL UNDER CONTROL

Albany, Nov. 12.—District fire rangers appeared today to have the forest fire situation in the state well in hand. Reports received by the conservation commission indicated that all fires were out or under control excepting two from which no reports had been received since the fire fighters entered the woods. One of these was near Standlsh, Clinton County and the other was a small blaze, at Weller Pond, near Middle Saranac Lake.

Light rains in the northern Adirondacks served to diminish the fire hazard there But dangerously dry condition continued to prevail in other section where fires have been prevalent during the past month…
