William Ames was the son of Ray Brook's first settler, Daniel Ames. William was a guide in his youth, probably at the Ray Brook House operated by his uncle, Duncan Cameron. Later he became a businessman involved in lumbering, farming and road construction. He was president of the Troy Laundry. He served as a Saranac Lake village trustee in 1913.

WILLIAM AMES SERVICES HELD AT FORTUNES

A Christian Science service was conducted at 2 o'clock this afternoon in the A. Fortune and Co., Inc., Funeral chapel, 40 Church street, for William S. Ames, 76, who passed away Thursday afternoon at the White Plains hospital.

Burial followed in the family plot in Pine Ridge cemetery. Pall bearers were George and James LaPan, Robert Herron and Richard Woodruff. J. Edward Mack and Oscar Jackson, Mr. Ames' partners in Troy Laundry, Inc. were honorary pall bearers.

Mr. Ames died after undergoing an operation early in November. He had been a patient at White Plains Hospital since that time.

Mr. Ames was a partner and president of Troy Laundry, Inc. He had been associated with the firm since it was purchased in 1917.
