William G. Jewtraw, a former Saranac Lake resident and frequent summer visitor here, was graduated on Feb. 1 from the New York City Police Academy and has been permanently assigned to the 23rd Precinct in Manhattan.

Mr. Jewtraw was born Dec. 16, 1940 in Brooklyn. He attended St. Mary's Parochial School in Woodside, L. I. for eight years and then the Delehanty High School in Jamaica, graduating in 1958. He joined the army in September of the same year at the age of 17. He served as a military policeman and a member of the Seventh Army honor guard in Stuttgart, Germany for two years returning to the states in January of 1961. He was honorably discharged in September of 1961, finishing his three years of service at Fort George G. Meade in Maryland.

He took the tests for patrolman in October of 1961 and was appointed to the Police Academy in October of 1962.
