CJIQ FM signed on for testing in November 2000 and officially launched on January 8, 2001.  The station is classified as Instructional by the CRTC. It broadcasts at 88.3 at a power of 4,000 Watts from the Global Television tower in Paris, Ontario. The mandate of the radio station is to provide a “living lab” for students of both the Broadcasting and Journalism programs at Conestoga College.

 

88-3 CJIQ programs a New Rock format. The tempo of the station is definitely up-tempo and skewed towards the 18-34 demographic. 

Evenings and Weekends CJIQ features different genres of music.  Special block programs include, Reggae on Vibes Radio. Classical, New Age and light jazz on Sunday’s, Hip Hop & R&B on shows like Souljah Session, The Lockdown and Heat Radio, If you are into the heavier side of rock there’s Feel The Rage, The Punk Rock Academy, Armed and Amped, and Anger Management. CJIQ also features programming in Polish, Serbian and Spanish.

CJIQ is an exciting, vibrant and professionally operated radio station with a commitment to our listeners and advertisers. While the majority of the programming is produced by students in the Media Design Programs, CJIQ serves the whole Region of Waterloo through its information and news programming.  We strive to execute the format of the station in a professional manner.   This provides the students with a view of what to expect upon graduation from their chosen program
