Here are a few local spots that offer a great Fireworks show on the holidays that call for such things. The May 24 weekend was always a big fireworks weekend but over the past few years, its turned into less public events and more back yard private parties.
Waterloo Region Museum, the new gateway to Doon Heritage Village, is holding a party to celebrate Canada Day and all are welcome to attend. Admission is free to the museum and the picturesque living history village for this fun family event.
This special Canada Day celebration will appeal to the entire family from children to grandparents. Festivities include musical entertainment, fun games like croquet and horseshoes. Guests bring your own picnic lunch or purchase a tasty BBQ lunch.

Fireworks show at 10 p.m. Admission is free, and parking is free in university lots.
- Riverside Park (Cambridge)
Brilliant flashes will light up Cambridge’s Riverside Park at about 9:30 p.m. Canada Day events begin at 8 a.m., and include music, a fishing derby, petting zoo and a midway. A parade at 1 p.m. begins at King and Bishop streets and runs along King Street to the park. Saturday night has been designated the rain date for the fireworks.
- Scott Park (New Hamburg)
Fireworks at dusk conclude a day filled with events at New Hamburg’s Scott Park, off Hunter Street. Activities include a car show at 10 a.m., live entertainment, children’s games, cake and a rubber duck race. Organizers advise visitors to park on nearby streets, as there’s no parking in Scott Park.
Fireworks launch at dusk at Bingemans in Kitchener. Visitors are asked to bring a non-perishable food donation for the Food Bank of Waterloo Region.
