Messengers Swamp is the historical name of the area in Brookside east of Highland Avenue, south of Soundview Avenue. The name dates back at least as early as 1739. Also called Byxbees Swamp as early as 1755, Keelers Swamp as early as 1738, Ruscoes Swamp as early as 1737 and Old Swamp as early as 1695. ¹
