2012 AIGA Raleigh community meeting

AIGA Raleigh is an organization that supports the local creative community. It is one of around 60 chapters of AIGA, the national professional organization for design (formerly known as the American Institute of Graphic Arts). The group's membership includes graphic designers, photographers, illustrators, developers, writers, programmers, printers, etc. The Raleigh chapter hosts open community meetings on the first Wednesday of every month. Its mission is to create a place where designing thrives.

Professional development

The organization offers three types of programming based on the chapter's mission. AIGA Raleigh's student groups are a part of all programming.:

  • Design ability - Educational programming based on the professional needs of the creative community. (Web 101, Homegrown lunch & learn series, Student Portfolio Review)
  • Design impact - Proving the impact design can have on our community, state and beyond. (Design for Good, The State of Design)
  • Uniting people - Bringing together the incredibly diverse creative communities. (Studio Tour)

History & leadership

In 2011, AIGA Raleigh celebrated its 25th anniversary, making the one of the eight oldest chapters in the United States. Founded in 1986, the Raleigh AIGA chapter is also one of the largest in the nation, with more than 350 members. It is run by board members who serve two-year terms in a mix of elected and appointed positions.
