Lake Johnson Park is a beautiful park located near North Carolina State University in West Raleigh. There are over 150 acres of lake and over 300 acres of land, to paddle, hike, fish, run, walk, bike or stroll. You will find boat rentals and concessions on a rocking chair deck that overlooks the lake. A family can enjoy lunch under the picnic shelters or partake in the variety of classes, special events and recreational opportunities offered throughout the year. Currently, Lake Johnson has 3.5 miles of paved greenway trails and 1.9 miles of unpaved trails. Biking is prohibited on unpaved trails.

Fisherfolk often come to Lake Johnson to fish off the boardwalk or rent a jon boat for largemouth bass, shell cracker, crappie, bream, catfish, and/or carp.  

Hours of Operation:

Lake Johnson Park is open daily, dawn to dusk.
Closed on Mondays from October - March.

Lake Johnson Park is closed on the following days:

  • New Year's Day
  • Martin Luther King, Jr. Day
  • Thanksgiving Day
  • Christmas Eve
  • Christmas Day
