Local 506 is a concert venue and nightclub located at 506 W. Franklin St. in downtown Chapel Hill. It opened on May 5, 2004.

The venue’s capacity is approximately 250 people. Tickets typically cost between $5 and $20 and are only available online. Local 506 also collaborates with other local venues, such as Carrboro’s Cat’s Cradle, to host and promote concerts. Show information is updated on the venue’s Facebook and Twitter pages.

Local 506 hosts new and established artists of many different genres. Student bands from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, including Mipso Trio, regularly play at the venue.

Local 506 is owned by Kippy and Tom Perkins of Chapel Hill, NC.


All shows are open to all ages. Membership is required to attend shows and can be purchased for $3 at the door on the night of events. Though Local 506 does not serve food, the bar serves liquor and beer. Identification and membership cards are checked at the door. Smoking is prohibited at Local 506.

Booking for Local 506 is done via email at [email protected]. To book, individuals should send the band’s name, hometown and a link to their music. Bands are encouraged to check the venue’s availability in advance by checking the Local 506 calendar. The venue is also available for private events during daytime and evening hours.

Local 506 promotes events on Facebook, and with posters and fliers in and around the venue. The venue also encourages bands to promote their own events through local press, radio and blogs, providing contact information on the venue's  promotion page
