Raleigh Neighborhood College participants tour police operations.The City of Raleigh Community Services Department offers two educational programs to help residents learn about local government and develop their skills as leaders. The programs, Raleigh Neighborhood College and Citizens Leadership Academy, take place each spring and fall. They are free for residents of the City of Raleigh and its areas of extraterritorial jurisdiction.

Raleigh Neighborhood College

Raleigh Neighborhood College offers an inside look at the services and programs offered by the City of Raleigh. The classes take place one night each week for 12 weeks. Representatives of City of Raleigh departments lead the classes, which include field trips to City facilities.

Citizens Leadership Academy

Citizens leadership Academy focuses on leadership development for people who would like to beome leaders in the community. The sessions are divided into three modules, with four classes in each module. Participants can take one, two or all three modules. Those who complete all three modules receive the Academy Leadership Plaque. Classes are held one evening per week for 12 weeks.

Many graduates of  Raleigh Neighborhood College and  Citizens Leadership Academy go on to become leaders in their neighborhoods and Citizens Advisory Councils and members of City of Raleigh boards and commissions.
