Red Hat, New Kind, and opensource.com will be hosting a meet-up on Wednesday, December 12, 2012 from 5:30 PM to 7:00 PM (EST) to celebrate the 10-year anniversary of Creative Commons. Triangle user groups and individuals using Creative Commons to pursue their passions are invited to attend.

We have eight speakers who are using Creative Commons in interesting ways and have prepared a five minute lighting talk (20 slides, 5 minutes). All speaking slots have been filled, and if there are any additional questions about the event, please contact Jason Hibbets.

About Creative Commons

What is Creative Commons?

Creative Commons is a nonprofit organization that enables the sharing and use of creativity and knowledge through free legal tools.

They provide free copyright licenses that provide a standardized way to give the public permission to share and use your creative work — on conditions of your choice. CC licenses let you easily change your copyright terms from the default of “all rights reserved” to “some rights reserved.”

Speaker details

Anyone in the Triangle using Creative Commons in an interesting way for business or pleasure is welcome to give a 5-minute lightning talk. Traditional Ignite-style talks are 20 slides in 5 minutes (auto-advancing every 15 seconds). We're flexible on the slides and could trim them down to 15 slides (auto-advancing every 20 seconds) or 10 slides auto-advancing every 30 seconds), if needed.

We have alotted time for 6-8 speakers during the event. Current speakers include:

  1. Michael Williams (@mcmanlypants) - Publishing a book using Creative Commons -- [slides submitted]
  2. Karen Cranston (@kcranstn) - Why Dryad uses Creative Commons -- [slides submitted]
  3. Phil Verghis (@phil_verghis) - Dancing E -- knowledge. sharing. for all. using Creative Commons to distribute content -- [slides submitted]
  4. Daniel Solis (@danielsolis) - Tabletop Games and the Thousand-Year Game Design Challenge -- [slides submitted]
  5. Heather LaGarde (@heatherlagarde)  & Dave Mason - Fund raising for Intrahealth open initiative with remixed music -- [slides submitted]
  6. Reid Serozi (@reidserozi) - Triangle Wiki, Edit Your City -- [slides submitted]
  7. Dr. Maria Droujkova (@mariadroujkova) & Yelena McManaman - Moebius Noodles -- [slides submitted]
  8. Erin Robinson (@ESIPFed) - ESIP Commons -- [slides submitted]

Each talk will be recorded and maybe published at a future date on opensource.com (under a Creative Commons license). Speakers will need to sign a video waiver form from Red Hat.
