Dimple Records is a chain of record stores in the Sacramento area. Dimple carries new and used CDs and DVDs and has a wide array of used video games (including old NES, SNES, Sega, Atari, N64, PSX, Dreamcast, Gameboy, PS2, Gamecube, Xbox, Wii, and PS3) controllers, and consoles. As of 6/25 the console selection is small (no Wii, SNES, NES or Atari) but that will increase in the future. Dimple also sells used VHS, usually for about 99 cents a tape. Dimple even sells Vinyl (see below for details). There are also numerous trinkets in the store for sale like incense, posters, pins, sunglasses, dolls, and even a Mac Dre hyphy mask. Employees have the ability to search through the inventory of Dimple's stores in the greater Sacramento area and can have a product transferred from another store in 2-5 days for no extra charge. Items currently available from distributors can also be special ordered and will arrive around 5-10 days in most cases. Dimple also has a lot of promotions going on and plenty of free demo and compilation CDs to give away.

Vinyl -

Dimple does sell but does not buy back used vinyl. As of 6/25 all the vinyl products appear to be new. Most records on vinyl cannot be special ordered because they are out of print.

Selling -

Dimple will buy back used CDs, DVDs, VHS, video games and video game systems/accessories (no vinyl or cassette tapes). When selling a video game console, you need to bring the console itself, the power cable, the video connector cables, and one original controller (no third-party controllers allowed, although you can sell those back separately). Trade in value for VHS is extremely low, so don't expect more than a quarter or so for most VHS tapes. Customers can choose to get either cash or store credit. The store will not quote buyback prices over the phone. Buyback can take a while depending on both the amount of product you have to sell or if other people are selling at the same time, but you are welcome to browse the store as they process your stuff.

Returns -

Dimple gives store credit only for all returns. If anything is brought back defective within 14 days it can be exchanged for free or customers can receive 100% store credit. If any new, unopened product is brought back within 14 days it can also be exchanged for 100% store credit. Opened CDs or DVDs that customers just simple don't like can be returned within 14 days for 75% store credit. This policy is terrible and in need of reform.

Dimple Rewards Card -

Dimple offers a free rewards card for all customers. For every 13 dollars that you spend, you receive a "point" — as these points accumulate, you can then use them to get items half off. For instance, if you have 11 points saved up, and you are buying a CD that comes to $10.50 (including tax) you can choose to get that CD half off. Thus, each point equates to a 50 cent deduction, but the points have to be above the price of at least one of the items you are buying. It's a modest but nonetheless simple and generous system. The points are tracked automatically on the card, and it takes less than 30 seconds to set one up during checkout. For those worrying about having more things to carry, employees can always look you up in the system by your name if you lose or forget your card.

2007-04-14 22:00:02   I've been to the Roseville location a number of times and well, if you aren't into rock music of any kind you may find it a tad uncomfortable. Personally, I loved it. They have a decent selection of punk music as well as classic rock. The people behind the counter are always amazing: their choice of music superb. I also love how random everything appears to be. —KirstenOnell

2007-05-04 01:31:30   I've been to a few of the locations, mostly the store on Arden which is quite large. It has a lot of dvd/VHS.

As with all used music stores, the selection varies from store to store. I have, however, encountered clerks who will check the other stores to see if they have what you want. I don't know if that is a store policy or if I just caught them on a good day! Their helpfulness does help those (like me) who don't like stores to be so randomly organized. I'm always wondering if I am missing something, or if I will find the same thing at a lower price in another bin.

They do have a punch card/frequent buyer program. I don't know what the terms are as I always forget to bring mine with me (I don't buy very much music, either)

They also carry the Sacramento News & Review and other independent media.

2007-12-24 06:32:48   Beware of using credit cards at Dimple. I bought a CD there in September with a credit card (arden location); next morning I got the call from Visa that my card was stolen. At Dimple, they run your CC through a machine, print out a slip with your credit card number on it, put it in the cash register, where presumably it was taken by an employee.

Otherwise it is a great store, lots of audio treasures to be found. —ndlxs

2008-01-27 14:12:13   I hate how they use packing tape on used CDs, especially ones with paper covers since you can't replace the case. —AndrewChen
