Description

The Beach Flats area of Santa Cruz is located just north of the Boardwalk, and spans about a 4-acre portion of the city. The area is primarily residential, but has several hotels and a few other businesses. Beach Flats has hopelessly cracked and bumpy streets, it is said that the streets have not been repaved for over a century.. However, the area is friendly and integrated, with a bit more than half Euro-American and a bit less than half Hispanic-American.  It is right on the public Santa Cruz Main Beach of the Pacific Ocean and the Estuary of the San Lorenzo River and Pacific Ocean, usually with many Harbor Seals. It is a short walk to Santa Cruz Downtown, and near the University of California. It has a vibrant artists community and has local artists each year in Santa Cruz County Open Studios.
