The Carmel River flows through Monterey County from its headwaters in Pine Valley at 3200 ft elevation in Los Padres National Forest to its outlet into the Pacific Ocean at Carmel River State Beach. Along the way the river is impounded by Los Padres Dam and San Clemente Dam.
