Established
(Date, i.e. MM-DD-YYYY)

The Sister Cities Committee is an eleven-member city advisory body appointed by the City Council.

Our Sister Cities

  • Shingu, Japan
  • Jinotepe, Nicaragua
  • Puerto La Cruz, Venezuela
  • Sestri Levante, Italy
  • Alushta, Ukraine

Meetings are held on the second Monday of every other month (January, March, May, July, September and November) at 7 p.m. in City Council Chambers, 809 Center Street, Santa Cruz, CA.

Cultural exchanges with our sister cities vary, but most recently, the sisters cities program helped raise awareness, and donations were sent to the city of Shingu, Japan after the earthquakes and tsunami of 2011 (they then sent the money to their sister city in Japan, who suffered exstensively from the disaster). In 1993, residents of Shingu visited downtown Santa Cruz and helped build Friendship Garden.
