A hostel is a place that provides very inexpensive overnight accommodations for travelers (not local residents) by offering dormitory-style rooms with shared amenities like the bathroom, kitchen, dining, and common areas, though some hostels do offer private bedrooms too. Hostels are available worldwide, and the idea was started by a German school teacher named Richard Schirrmann back in the Summer of 1907.
