While still in business, they closed the Soquel Branch and are no longer in Santa Cruz County.
This credit union does offer a Visa credit card, and online transactions. According to the website, "Membership is available to anyone who lives or works in the counties of Monterey, Santa Cruz, San Benito, San Luis Obispo, or Santa Clara counties."
Accounts are insured up to $500,000. Monterey Credit Union accounts are insured by American Share Insurance, a private company. Accounts at Monterey Credit Union are not insured by the federal government. Also, they are not obliged to do any public reporting about when they started, who is in charge, and their financial health. They are one of 13 Credit Unions in California (out of about 450) that are NOT insured by FDIC.
