Night Light is a yearly art event that was conceived by Kirby Scudder and sponsored by the Santa Cruz Institute of Contemporary Arts. It is held in conjunction with International Peace Day, which is on September 21. In 2006, members of the communtiy helped place portable, battery powered spotlights along West Cliff Drive, spaced about 20 feet apart. The lights were illuminated for an hour, and the visual effect of the lights was secondary to bringing the community together in an act of peace. In 2007 the event was repeated, though organized slightly differently.
