Cobanco owned County Bank and Trust also known as County Bank of Santa Cruz in Santa Cruz County. Pacific Banshares owned Pacific Valley Bank in Santa Clara County and elsewhere. The two companies merged in 1987 to form Pacific Western Bank, owned by Pacific Bancshares. While the main office in Santa Cruz was on River Street, the corporate office was in San Jose, California. The bank was bought by Comerica Bank in September of 1993.
