When the theater first opened in 1948, , it was called the Osocales Theatre, and then it became the Soquel Cinema in 1951 when bought by the Ide family.  In the mid-70's, the cinema's new owners switched from showing mainstream movies and into screening of X-rated adult movies.   There was a lot of controversy in the 70's over "adult" themed businesses in Santa Cruz County. Due to finance problems and vandalism, the cinema closed in late August of 1980.

A local theater group took over the building and it became the West Abbey Theater, where it was used for plays and musicals.   A couple of years later it converted to a nightclub called Dexter's.

In 1986, a Foursquare Church group bought the building and it became Lighthouse Christian Fellowship Church.

On Easter Sunday, April 4th, 2010, a new church was founded in the same building called Crosspoint. It is a church of young people, surfers, and anyone else, regardless of where they've been. http://www.crosspointsc.com
