An organization promoting independent and locally owned businesses within Santa Cruz County.
The idea is to encourage people to stimulate the local economy by shopping locally. The organization does understand that goal is not always practical. One of their first directories of places to shop was sponsored by a Japanese bank with headquarters in Los Angeles. The printed list of selected businesses has included companies from Santa Clara County with an office in Santa Cruz County, chain stores, and even a foreign-owned publishing company. Their website -- ThinkLocalSantaCruz.org -- sits on a server in Dallas, Texas.
