The upper campus is generally wooded The trailheads on-campus lead to the UCSC Upper Campus area, as well as to Pogonip, Grey Whale Ranch, and Wilder Ranch State Park. Some trails are more developed than others (the Long Range Development Plan allotted for additional roads which are currently in place, albeit as gravel) and some are entirely unofficial. There are several remarkable landmarks on UCSC proper, and a few off-campus. Among them are:

  • Tree Nine
  • Limestone Kilns
  • The Quarry
  • The Porter Cave
  • Cat's Cradle
  • Caer Ellillon
  • The Koi Pond
  • The Pirate Ship
  • Tree Pinto

UCSC Expansion

Currently, 240 acres of the Upper Campus forest is threatened by development if UCSC is allowed to expand according to the 2005 Long Range Development Plan. Community groups such as Long Range Resistance and Teach The Forest mounted campaigns against the expansion.
