As a nonprofit improvisational theater troupe, Um...Gee...Um exists to entertain, to tickle the imagination, and to celebrate the spontaneous. Playful and participatory theater is our goal. Each show is completely improvised—created before your eyes and with your suggestions.Um...Gee...Um celebrated its 23rd anniversary in March of 2012, and members have been with the troupe between 15 and 18 years. We've been part of the Santa Cruz theater scene since 1989.

Um...Gee...Um started when a few intrepid folks who'd taken an improv class at Cabrillo College decided they wanted to keep pursuing this crazy spontaneous art form. The troupe starting out with a few shows at the old pre-earthquake Cafe Chameleon, then moved to Front Street Pub for regular Monday night gigs. In 1991, Um...Gee...Um hopped on over to make their home at the Actors' Theater on Center Street, where they performed steadily on Monday nights for many years, honing their improv skills and group dynamics.

Um...Gee...Um currently performs about 5 or 6 times a year in Santa Cruz at the Broadway Playhouse and other venues. We continue to strive to present quality, in-the-moment theater that involves the audience as it entertains and encourages them to share the joy of story and spontaneity. Our weekly rehearsals offer us a forum to workshop new formats and ideas for our shows as well as continue our love fest with improv and each other.

We also are available to teach improv workshops and perform at corporate events and parties.
