This was a well known local cigar/tobacco shop that always had the sweet smell of tobacco lingering in the air. They were also a good source for magazines, newspapers, comic books, and fishing tackle. The location of the business changed three different times since it first opened, but each of those locations was within a block of each other on Pacific Avenue.

2010-03-18 09:59:59   I have an envelope from United Cigar, Joslin Brothers Sporting Goods with the store emblem and address on it. After the store fell during the Loma Prieta Earthquake we purchased some of the bricks from Kim Joslin and used them for our backyard. —70.134.83.141

2011-03-24 21:54:13   I lived in Scotts Valley from 1964 till 1977 when I graduated from Harbor High School. The "Cigar Store" was my favorite hangout in the whole world. The smell was indescribable. Kim Joslin and his dad, Bill, were the knowledgeable and courteous proprietors. Bill was a dear, humble and trusting man who greeted me as a friend whenever I walked in, even though I was only a kid. I recall asking to look through a plastic container of many many dry flies. Bill left me with the container to pick through flies while he attended other customers. It left a profound impression on me, that this grown man trusted that I would not pocket a handful of flies and leave without paying. I seldom had spending money but Bill always took time to listen to my questions about his sporting goods and deliver a thoughtful response. It was a wonderful time to grow up in Santa Cruz and the Cigar Store along with Bill and Kim will always be a precious memory. —98.207.191.120

2011-11-04 10:50:06   I was looking for some old photos of the store on line to create a birthday present for dad (kim Joslin) and stumbled upon this. I can't wait to forward it to him. I have some fantastic memories of working at the front counter and listening to the mens club in the back telling stories little did I know then how much those experiences would help me in the future where I work comfortably within a male dominated industry. —66.87.4.22
