In 2011, 84 Mission Hill Middle School students created 59 mosaic images of plants and animals of the San Lorenzo Watershed. The project was implemented under the guidance of Nancy Howels and Kathleen Crocetti in 2011. Three sides of every lamp post (the sides visible from the bridge) have an installed mosaic image. The project was sponsored by the City of Santa Cruz Redevelopment agency.
In 2012 a similar project was completed on the Soquel Avenue Bridge. Soquel Avenue Bridge Art.
