Black Point is a small harbor in the San Francisco Bay that was home to the city's first jail, the brig Euphemia. The tip of Black Point was used as a battery to protect ships and shipping lanes from Confederate raids. The Battery grew into what is now Fort Mason.

During the aftermath of the 1906 quake Black Point was used, much like Dolores Park and Golden Gate Park, as a refuge site for survivors.

Currently Black Point is also the location of Aquatic Park, as well as the Maritime Museum. The shoreline north of the battery adjacent to Fort Mason is the only surviving section of coastline east of the Golden Gate Bridge left in its original state, and has never been altered or destroyed by developers.
