Community Supported Agriculture or CSA programs are an awesome idea where you basically "subscribe" to a local farm or farms for a certain period of time. The farm(s) then sends you a box/basket/bag of food periodically. There are a number of CSAs available to those living in the city, making eating locally easy.

  • Terra Firma Farms (Yolo County) - Small, medium, and large boxes. Excellent veggies, fruit, and nuts. Many pick up locations.
  • Fifth Crow Farms (Pescadero) - Great farmers, beautiful farm, amazing produce. Pick up at Castro Farmers Market on Wednesdays. Egg, flower, and honey add-on options. Farmers trained at UCSC!
  • Eatwell Farms: A Dixon, CA based farm. You can also subscribe to Three Wise Hens eggs (so effin delicious!) through them. Each box comes with a handy newsletter with an update on the farm and recipes for stuff in the box that week. They offer fortnightly deliveries too, a useful thing for smaller households or people who don't cook in as often. They deliver to local drop-off points, and you pick up your box and sign in.
  • Farm Fresh to You: This is a wonderful Community Supported Agriculture group. Not only do they deliver to your front door, they also allow you to customize your order, take a vaction break, receive service weekly/bi-weekly/every three weeks/monthly, and you do not have to commit to service for any particular length of time.   • Albert & Eve Organics Coffee and honey add-ons. Wednesday delivery. 
  • Greenhearts Family Farm

  • Two Small Farms: Watsonville-based farms. They deliver to a drop-off point, and you pick up your box. Only available March through Thanksgiving.
