Community Thrift Store is unique as far as second-hand stores go, because it donates its proceeds (after the cost of upkeep) to nonprofit organizations of the donor's choice. They supply a list for donors to choose from. Donations can be made weekdays from 10 to 5. Don't just leave stuff outside the door, though.

The book section in this store is considered a little gem, as it is one of the few thrift stores with a system in place to catalog the books. They are generally alphabetized and placed on the shelves in sections - a rarity for a secondhand store that doesn't specialize in books. (The books are also pretty cheap, of course.)

The store's website lists items that for various reasons can and cannot be donated.

The alley right behind the thrift store is amazing and has lots of beautiful murals. The alley extends all the way from Mission to Valencia.

Benefiting Nonprofits

A large number of charities and other nonprofit organizations may be designated to receive a portion of your donations. Use their ID numbers (provided by Community Thrift) when donating to make sure that your donations go to the right place. Choose wisely!
