Though pinball is a popular feature of many SF bars, the legality has been murky. Legislation passed on 2014-07-29 updated permit requirements such that bars may have up to five (5) machines without a permit and non-bars may have up to ten (10).
One popular place, Free Gold Watch on Haight St, even has a pinball league. Antique machines are featured at Fisherman's Wharf at Musée Mécanique.
There's even a pinball game named San Francisco.
Eventually, it would be great to catalog SF's pinball machines here.
