History
Southern Pacific has had a presence in Sonoma Valley since it acquired Northern Railway on April 14, 1898. Almost 100 years later, on October 1, 1992, SP acquired the Northwestern Pacific Railroad which had operated and still owned right of ways in the valley since 1907, with roots going back to the earliest railroad in the valley, the Sonoma Valley Prismoidal Railway (1876).
