Governor's Park is a little-known gem tucked conveniently alongside Tallahassee's well-traveled stretch of the popular Blairstone Road between Park Avenue and Mahan Road.
The entrance to the park is an unmarked, partially paved road that's easy to miss if you're not paying attention. There's a dirt parking area under the Blairstone overpass right next to the train track. The two hundred acre greenway is a gorgeous, wide-open expanse of grass great for walking the dog, flying a kite on a windy day, playing with the kids, or going for a run up the big hill. The CSX railroad rumbles over the tracks as they travel east-west through town. Farther back, the area bends around to shady areas under large trees perfect for picnics, reading a book or even taking a nap. If you get a chance to check it out, please do so gently and quietly to help preserve its calm beauty. There is a blog available about the Myers House, which is located at the top of the park. The home was built by Hyman Myers,and it has 19 rooms.. He was an astute business man, owning Capital Hide and Fur Co. and began a Pecan Co. He served as President of Temple Israel in the early 40s.
