Cordua Canal is a canal in Cordua Irrigation District that flows around the southern edge of the Trainer Hills, about halfway between Mello and Iowa City. It diverts water from the Yuba River just above Daguerra Point Diversion Dam. A metal gate enables water from Cordua Canal to be diverted into Stahl Ditch, which is just west of it. Cordua Canal is approximately 22 feet wide and 6 feet deep.1 The eastern portion of it is unlined, but the western portion of it is lined with concrete.

Cordua Canal is named for Theodor Cordua and is also sometimes known as the Hallwood-Cordua Canal, after nearby Hallwood. According to United States Geological Survey maps, it was built during the period between 1911 and 1947. By 1929, the canal reached approximately eight miles west of the Daguerra Point Diversion Dam. The canal was most likely built to support rice farming, because rice prices were rising after Word War I.2
