James and Kara, also known as JnK, were raised in the Yuba-Sutter area. They married in Santa Rosa, California, while away at Sonoma State College, December 2000.

James and Kara, are a freelance writing team with a passion for the bridging power of language. Their approach to the written word is based on a unique collaborative process, involving the integration of psychology, poetics, and a deep appreciation for communication and relationship. Together they founded Amicus Books in Marysville in 2005. Their vision for their own personal relationship led them to the idea of "sphere of influence," which says in essence: the best way to have a joyful world is to create a joyful self. We achieve a joyful self when we realize that other people (our family, our friends, our community members) enter our lives as teachers, reflecting for us our greatest strengths and weaknesses. From this, using the power of writing as a tool to integrate and foster community, James and Kara have developed their collaborative working model.

After closing Amicus Books Literary Arts Center in 2010, James and Kara created Davis Writing Services1 as an outlet for their passion for the written word.
