Lake of the Woods is a seasonal lake or large vernal pool that dries up every summer. It is located slightly west of Rio Oso, near the east bank of the Feather River and the north bank of the Bear River. The area is largely surrounded by orchards.

The Lake of the Woods Unit of the Feather River State Wildlife Area does not actually include Lake of the Woods itself, but does include the land directly across the Levee Road from the lake's west bank, and a narrow strip of Riparian Forest extending west to the Feather River, south to the mouth of the Bear River, and north to the area opposite the O'Connor Lakes Unit.
