Wicca is a neopagan religion characterized by a code of ethics called the Wiccan Rede, a set of nature-based holidays called the Wheel of the Year, a belief in practicing ritual magic, and the worship of two deities traditionally described as the Triple Goddess and the Horned God. Some Wiccans consider the Triple Goddess and the Horned God to be separate deities, while other Wiccans consider them to be part of a single Godhead. Both groups may or may not also worship other gods in addition to these two. Some Wiccans believe that all the gods and goddesses described by all cultures are aspects of the same supernal god and goddess; for example, some Wiccans regard the Christian Virgin Mary as a manifestation of the Triple Goddess and the Christian Trinity as three manifestations of the Horned God. Other Wiccans disagree.

Wicca is sometimes called witchcraft, but it differs in many ways from the popular concept of witchcraft. Some Christians confuse Wicca with Satanism. Although Satanism also often differs significantly from the popular concept of it (as explained in the Wikipedia article about it), Satanism has little else in common with Wicca.

Wicca can be practiced alone or with a coven. Some covens in the Yuba-Sutter area prefer not to advertise their presence to the general public, due to misconceptions and prejudice about what Wicca constitutes. However, there is at least one Wiccan coven in the Yuba-Sutter area hoping to start up soon by this years 2011 Yule. Email here for more info: [email protected]
