Chairman’s Report -

Rick gave the distilled version of the principal objectives of HCA which is “to preserve and enhance the amenity of residential life in Hahndorf”

This we seek to achieve by -

  1. re routing heavy vehicles from this heritage Main Street. This being an ‘arterial road”, State Government is not convinced of this long term need on several levels. We fight on  …

  2.  Council has ear tuned to Hahndorf as we present reasonable requests. Thank you to Mayor Ferguson, elected members Simon Westwood, Jeff Bettcher and Trevor Corbell along with the Council officers with whom we have working relationships eg toilets are now clean, some footpaths upgraded, new playground and surrounds, compliance with signage,10 new seats along Main

Street and ongoing discussions re. the IGA pedestrian crossing in partnership with State Government officers.

c. HCA encourages Business and Tourism Association in the initiative to promote parking off the main street, thus being able to better preserve the Heritage values and safety for users. HCA objective is working together on a better strategic approach

  1. Taking action to gain early intervention to planning decisions which physically affect and undermine the heritage values of our Main Street. The term ‘gap tooth’ is gaining currency.

A sub committee is devoted to this objective as so many decisions are made without the community being aware. We have a plan for this, and we consider the protection of the heritage value Hahndorf holds for South Australia and the nation is so important we have sought out and brought to you our guest speaker Dr Ann Herraman.

e. other notable achievements are the quarterly production of the town newsletter Village Voice, the continuous update of Hahnwiki [now known through Barkerwiki] and the facilitation of the Remembrance Day service.
