Minutes of Annual General Meeting - Hahndorf Institute , Tuesday, 11th November 2008.

Opened:

At 7.30p.m. President Phil Houston welcomed 63 people in attendance and Guests from Council, Bill Chandler, Brian Clancy, Lindsay Campbell and Lyndell Davidge.

President's Report:

Points raised were “Think Tank” meeting in August – Involvement with TDU, Clean-up Australia Day, Anzac Day observance, Remembrance Day, Main Street issues re Heavy Transport, Rubbish Bins, Building Approvals and the lack of regard for heritage nature of town, and tardiness of Council to complete Johnston Park.

Eric thanked Russell Grivell (Hon. Auditor).
Eric moved report be accepted. Ann Haines seconded. Passed.

General Business:

Raise issues after Question and Answer time.
Bob Dewell – Lions Club: Hahndorf Lions 40 years old. 2009 Convention at Hahndorf. 250-320 attending 23rd - 25th October, 2009.
Serenah G. – St. Nicholas Parade – 5th December. Town event although St.Pauls Lutheran Church is organizing it.

Election of Committee:

2 evening meetings each year. Other meetings will be held in the day time.
David Haines declared all positions vacant.
David went through list and noted members who were prepared to stand again ...
Eric Aliffe, Margaret Brook, Tony Finnis, Serena Gallasch, Russell Grivell, David Haines, Rick Harcourt, Mike Hasler, Phil Houston, and Louise Trinkle, Sandra Berry has indicated her willingness to join the Committee.
The meeting endorsed the names put forward as being the Committee for the coming year.

Ann Haines spoke about Village Voice. Mid December next issue. Asked for articles, news, etc.

Next Meeting:

On December, 9th, at 9.30am Coffee House.

Panel:

Lindsay Campbell – Councillor (one of 4) North ward.
Bill Chandler – General M & N. Strategies Development Urban Communities.
Brian Clancy – Gen. Manager Infra- Structure – Projects.
Lyndell Davidge – Lived in Hahndorf since 1975. Member National Trust, Academy Foundation member – Teacher. Walking Trail.

Questions and Answers

Phil Houston asked: Total Rate Revenue of Hahndorf to DCMB. B.Clancey responded Cannot answer will reply in 7 days.
Tony Finnis asked on behalf of Lita Los Angeles regarding bus parking.
Lindsay Campbell responded: Lines are not marked yet and so parking has been haphazard. Toilet gifted by Developer. Councill will take over toilet and remark lines for parking.
Mike Hasler asked about heavy traffic on Main Street.
Brian Clancy responded: State Government responsibility. Council advocates on behalf of people in community.
Transport Master Plan identifies the problem and requires a ring route around Hahndorf. Complex problem. Major study by State Government on Development plan at Nairne, Littlehampton and Mt.Barker.
Phil Houston – Hahndorf sees itself as having different issues from Mt.Barker, Littlehampton and Nairne.
Lindsay Campbell responded –Hahndorf is part of whole district – cost of ring route is astronomical. Lindsay has to consider the whole district . Hahndorf is one of 3 or 4 key areas. B.Clancy - As yet there is no draft Master Plan for transport. When draft plan is ready then there will be Consultation.
On behalf of Serena Gallasch, Phil Houston asked about completion of paving Main Street footpaths.
Reports have gone in many times …any progress? B. Clancy $2,300.(Construction criteria). Footpaths 170,000. This year
6 sections of footpaths completed. Council web site for requests for id number. Brian tabled. Council’s policy on Footpaths.
Harold Gallasch – Bus Park – not suitable for major tourist town. Does council have forward thinking
Lyndell Davidge – Hahndorf’s amenities for tourists should be considered with forward planning.
Bill Chandler – Car and Bus parking – a target by early next year to identify and accommodate these Facilities.
Barry Wilkins – An audit has been taken to identify bus and car parking. Barry is still employed part time to facilitate Hahndorf Main Street Master Plan.

Are trees to be planted at Kaesler’s site? Bill Chandler will look at planning.
Lyndell – 1885 trees were planted. There was an opportunity to do significant heritage development.
Bill Chandler – Background in landscape and urban design – will bring this new dimension and experience to Council.

Maureen Gordon – Residents’ concerns are not being addressed. What can we do about these delays?
B. Clancy – More than happy to speak about concerns.

John Wittwer – Graffitti – How can we deal with this?
B.Clancy - Rapid response in hours. Tags – Photos taken and working closely with police.

Phil Houston – Where is $750,000 for town being spent?
Brian Clancy – Alec Johnson Park $55,000, $250,000 grant for Academy, $44,000 Acad. Op. plant. $150,000 road reseal.
