Minutes of Committee Meeting held on Wednesday, 11 April 2012 at 9.30am in the Institute Supper Room

Present:

Russell Grivell, Tony Finnis, Mike Hasler, Doug Allen, Harold Gallasch, Wendy Williams, Eric Aliffe, Rick Harcourt, Jeff Bettcher, Sheila Bettcher.

Apologies:

Jim Fowles, Ann Haines, John and Margaret Brook.

Special mention by Chairman of the passing of long time member of the Association, Mr David Haines, who will be sadly missed by the Hahndorf Community for his tireless volunteer work for the Academy, Institute, Lions, Hall Committee, the Mt Barker District Council and Legacy, as well as this Association.
Sympathy to his wife Ann and family was expressed by all.

Minutes of Previous Meeting (14 March 2012):

Approved as a true and correct record of proceedings.

1. Business Arising:

1.1 Improved Lighting for darker areas of Main Street, Hahndorf.

Council still awaiting approval from ETSA for LED fittings.

1.2 Upgrade for the Hahnwiki

Tony Finnis and Rick Harcourt to facilitate regular updating of site. Action: Tony Finnis/Rick Harcourt

1.3 Pioneer Memorial Gardens Upgrade

Fencing complete. Earthworks for new playground to proceed. Play equipment to arrive by end of May and playground to be completed by the end of June.

1.4 Heavy Traffic Issues and speed limit of 40kms through Main Street of Hahndorf

Rick Harcourt and Jeff Bettcher met with Brian Clancey DCMB re the progress of joint traffic.  Study of Main Street issues by DCMB and DPTI. Brian to write letter of response to DPTI acknowledging that which had already been discussed verbally. Funding to be included in the DCMB 2012/2013 budget.

1.5 Pine Avenue/Main Street Intersection

Norm Key from DCMB has reported that pedestrian guidance fencing is not feasible.  The meeting suggested that a small island refuge might be a possible solution at this intersection. Jeff Bettcher to follow up. Action: Jeff Bettcher

1.6 Hahndorf Waterways

Norm Key to organise the clearance of undergrowth to five (5) metres from bitumen at entry from Adelaide to Hahndorf where the Hahndorf creek meets the Onkaparinga River, early in the next financial year (2012/2013).  Jeff Bettcher to follow up with Atis Berzins and Norm Key re understanding with Doug Allen that due to Doug providing access to the creek for the release of water the DCMB would clear willows at the end of Kavel Street, either side of bridge into the rear of St Paul’s Nursing Homes. Possible NRM funding for water management plan from Lobethal Office. Terry Banks for DCMB to follow up. Action: Jeff Bettcher

1.7 Follow up on Accidents Report in Main Street, Hahndorf

Mike Hasler reported to Mayor the broken kerb on Pine Avenue. Action planned unknown.

    2. Correspondence:

    In:

    DCMB Application form for Events Grant Funding received. Form to be submitted before month end for 2012/2013 funding for the opening of the upgraded Pioneer Memorial Garden.
    Action: Sheila Bettcher

    Email received from Deb Alexander re proposed December outdoor concert to be held on the Hahndorf Oval. Was fully supported by all present.
    Secretary to send a response on behalf of the HCA advising of our full support and wishing her well in her endeavours.  Action: Sheila Bettcher

    3. Reports:

    3.1 Chairman’s Report:

    Objectives as minuted from the March meeting were discussed.
    It was suggested that the DCMB Heritage Officer meet with Annie Fox re protection of heritage areas. Areas that need to be watched are Eric Sheuard’s house on Main Street, Mooney’s Barn on Windsor Avenue, etc.

    Reduction of Heavy Traffic through Main Street, Hahndorf
    Pedestrian safety at Pine Avenue
    Safe crossing at IGA
    Achieve a more strategic approach to off street parking
    Preservation of heritage buildings in Hahndorf. (Don’t approve without consultation). To work in conjunction with National Trust; to look at Hahndorf as a whole to see what we can do retain its heritage. Committee to get itself involved in the development of Hahndorf.
    Footpath out to Beerenberg (safe trail for tourists)

    3.2 Treasurer’s Report:

    The Treasurer presented his report to the meeting showing cash at bank $1,879.91 as at 11 April 2012.
    Report was accepted.

    4. Any Other Business:

    4.1 Jeff Bettcher reported that proposed footpath construction for 2011/2012 on English and Collins Streets will be replaced by the same length of footpath in Auricht Road commencing at Pine Avenue. Street plantings on English and Collins Street need further consideration.
